Assistant Project Manager Intern

Location: Champlin, MN

Overview:

Egan Company is seeking candidates for a part-time Assistant Project Manager Intern within Egan's Building Automation group. The Assistant Project Manager Intern will learn project management methods & strategies, become familiar with company systems, and assist senior staff in performing various administrative assignments in support of a designated project or group of projects. In this role, you'll provide project coordination support for projects and project teams.

Key Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of the Assistant Project Manager Intern include but are not limited to the following:

  • Collaborate with the project team to assist in planning, setup, and managing construction projects.
  • Navigate and use Egan’s project management systems and processes, including Milestone Based Delivery (MBD).
  • Promotes a positive safety culture by ensuring Egan’s safety policies and goals are communicated and followed on assigned projects.
  • Participate in construction document analysis to develop clear and consistent interpretations.
  • Become familiar with the materials, equipment, and components of the technical systems installed by Egan’s trades.
  • Assist in managing material purchases, project material coordination, and material stock for emergency and service project use.
  • Advise project management of potential problems, work interferences, schedule difficulties, and the like, as it relates to assigned duties. Learn how Egan can circumvent and/or resolve such problems.
  • Monitor V-Model for each project and assist with associated tasks (i.e. schedule kick-off and close-out meetings, coordinate tool returns, etc.).
  • Track job permitting.
  • Compose and edit letters, memos, reports, and procedures; assist with change orders, project billings, and change request pricing.
  • Process day-to-day administrative items (i.e. supply requisitions, RFI’s, submittals, shop drawings, procurement, take-offs, etc.) as directed.
  • Prepare special reports, studies, and statistical analysis per supervisor’s request. May require research, development and/or interpretation of data with little supervision or instruction.
  • Learn how to interpret project schedules, anticipate manpower requirements and measure subcontractor performance.
  • Assist with the research and preparation of field change requests to resolve design issues.
  • Participate in the continuous updating and accurate generation of as-built documents.
  • Attend project coordination and owner/contractor/architect/engineer meetings as directed.
  • Solicit and review project submittals; coordinate with project manager and purchasing.
  • Build strong internal partnerships; work collaboratively with other Egan groups to support Egan’s Mission, Vision and Values.
  • Use basic understanding of financials and reporting to support a PM in related responsibilities.
  • Perform additional duties and assignments as requested/needed.

Position Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled & in progress for a degree in a related program or field.
  • 3.0 GPA or higher given priority consideration.

Qualifications:

  • Interest and ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to take on new tasks and learn new things.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
  • Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work with all levels of internal and external customers.
  • Excellent MS Office and Google Suite skills and ability/desire to learn new software systems.
